One of the most important achievements of modern prosody is the use of phonetic syllables instead of 'sabab', 'vatad' and 'fāsīlah'. A syllable is made up of consonants and vowels, which are two smaller phonetic units; and is divided into different types based on the number of these units and their combination. By careful division of syllables and close examination of their quantity in contemporary prosody, one can achieve new results that are sometimes in contrast with previous findings. The use of mathematical rules that are the foundation of prosody proves the authenticity of the new findings. In this research, at first, the related authentic references are examined and certain vocal principles are extracted and compared with regard to mathematical rules. The researchers try to specify the accurate division of syllables and their precise quantity, and to provide logical answers to the following questions:
1) Can consonants be extended like vowels? If yes, to what extent? And do consonants, like vowels, differ in their extension?
2) Is it correct to assume that the length of a long syllable equals the length of two short syllables?
3) Is it correct to assume that the length of a stretched syllable equals the length of a short syllable plus the length of a long syllable?
