A Psychological Analysis of the Character of "Bahram" in Nezami's Haft Peykar Based on Story Therapy

M. Kohansal*
Islamic Azad University of Iran, Shiraz

Abstract
Nezami’s Haft Peykar has a frame tale narrative structure presenting a special process in characterization and plot development that can be studied in the light of psychological theories. In Haft Peykar, structure and the frame story and even the dialogues between characters are filled with symbolic signs. The analysis of characters within the story and the stories told by them, which are woven within the main structure of Haft Peykar seem to lead to Bahram, the main character's development and final repose. By analyzing the character of “Bahram” and gathering signs in his speech and attitude based on principles of psychology, the writer has tried to study it from a psychological perspective and to apply it in the process of story therapy.
Keywords: Haft Peykar, Story Therapy, Bahram, Psychological criticism

* Assistant Prof. of Persian Language & Literature, mkohansaal@gmail.com
