Abstract
Existential thoughts in this new age roots back to western philosophical thoughts. It is a lens for viewing human and its status in the universe. This philosophy is the first form of criticism towards classic essentialism which underestimates the power of humans in their fate and through spreading somewhat deterministic reflections promotes a passive mode of thinking. In this article, after analyzing the history and content of the poem, Sculptor, as one of the effective examples of contemporary Persian poetry, a comparison is made with classic essentialism traditions. Afterwards, a new mode of reading is proposed for the above-mentioned poem. The central theme of this poem is that if the comparative originality of humans is to be considered one of the basic elements of modern thinking, Naderpoor’s poem is alienated from this concept and at the end it can be analyzed as a promoter of essentialism which relates to classic determinism. This can be considered an ideological tool rather than an ontological method for suppressing humans and depriving agency from them.
