Some Incidents of Imperceptible Artistic Devices in the Poetry of Saadi and Hafez Analised from a Functionalistic View
Abstract
From ancient times, the wish to discover the secrets of great poets has motivated many thinkers of language and literature to study about it precisely. Then they have expressed their ideas in different forms such as poetics, rhetoric, litterary schools principles, and linguistic approaches and literary theories. Certainly, the ability to understanding and criticize poetry will be more accurate and broader by acquaintance with the methods of arts such as painting and cinema. In the present article, some of the incidents of imperceptible poetic devices of Saadi and Hafez poetry have studied in order to formulate the principles for constructing a practical method of poetry analysis from a new functionalist point of view based on a combination of rhetorical and stylistic traditions with new linguistic attitudes. In this method, first, it must distinguish the main purpose of the poem and then by focusing on this purpose, then all the tools, elements, and linguistic, literary and artistic arrangements that could help to strengthen this main purpose would analyzed.
It seems that the examples that have proposed for the compilation and verification of this hypothesis could be considered as the evidence of fertility and useful practical capabilities of this approach not only to study Sadi and Hafez but to also the other Persian poets.
