Function of language and dialogue in Attar's Asrarnameh stories

Abstract

Dialogue is one of the necessary elements of narrative literature. Asrarnameh of Attar which is didactic narrative has pleasant stories. In these stories dialogue has important role so as it takes place of the action. Attar, in these stories by using different ways of dialogue such as direct, indirect, internal and dramatic has used these elements in order to perform (complete) the narrative story. In Asrarnameh dialogues from the voice point of view are monologues, one sided, twosided and multi sided of the narrative. Two sided dialogues from the diversity point of view are the most ones. Language in Asrarnameh dialogue stories (Anecdotes) used at least one of the following functions, referral, encouraging, emotional, ultra-lingual, cooperative and literary.Three of these functions including referral, encouraging and emotional has the most ones among the functional languages. In this research we have inspected different kinds of dialogues, especially two sided anecdotes of Asrarnameh and the function of language in them. The results indicate that Attar composed Asrarnameh for sophistic instructions. He found narration a suitable way for his purpose. He used informative more than other verbal aspects. His informative language is used more than other aspects of verbs. And his language mostly has referral role and emotional then encouraging role. And Attar is very familiar with the miracle of the language in the expression of the significances.
