Abstract
Objective:
This study aims to examine and analyze the story of "The King and the Handmaiden" from the first book of Rumi's Masnavi from the perspective of clinical psychology. The primary objective is to align the states and behaviors of the handmaiden character with modern psychological theoretical frameworks and to scrutinize the treatment method employed by the physician in the story.
Methodology:
This research has been conducted using a descriptive-analytical method and an interdisciplinary approach (literature and psychology). The required data was gathered through library research and a review of Rumi's works as well as the theories of scholars in the field of clinical psychology, and was subsequently analyzed using content analysis.
Findings:
The findings of the study indicate that the root of the handmaiden's problems can be analyzed and explained within modern scientific frameworks such as insecure attachment, trauma (psychological injury), failed object relations, and unresolved grief. Furthermore, the therapeutic approach of the physician in the story, which is based on a comprehensive understanding of these factors and the provision of subtle, allegorical treatment, shows significant alignment with the principles of modern psychotherapy.
Innovation (Value):
The value and innovation of this research reside in demonstrating the latent capacities embedded within this ancient work for the symbolic and artistic representation of psychological and therapeutic processes—capacities that were subsequently formulated within scientific frameworks centuries later. The principal distinction of this study lies in uncovering Rumi's unique method: the masterful deployment of anecdote and allegory as an indirect therapeutic tool to influence the audience's subconscious.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, it can be stated that Rumi's Masnavi is not merely a literary-mystical work; rather, it possesses considerable potential for reinterpretation within the framework of contemporary psychological insights. The findings of this research underscore the capacity of ancient Persian texts to contribute to modern scientific
