Abstract

The study and research of ancient Persian texts, especially those that have not been published, and the careful attention to the recordings of the manuscripts, allows us to arrive at a more precise form and meaning of certain words and terms. Sharaf al-Din Shafarvah Isfahani is one of the poets of the sixth century AH. whose divan has not yet been printed. This Divan is significant in terms of language, vocabulary, anthropology, sociology, history, and geography. One of the fields of interest for Sharaf al-Din is the various types of textiles, and one of these types is the term "Yalak." In this article, with critical correction method, assisted by additional Persian, Arabic, and Latin sources, and attention to the recordings of the manuscripts, to examine this term and explain its meaning across different languages; Persian examples containing the word “Yalak” are presented, and errors in these examples are corrected. Finally, based on these corrected examples, the meaning of “Yalak” is explained.
